It remains to be seen if the top brass of the BCCI will continue to keep Rohit and Kohli in the A+ bracket or if they will be demoted to Grade A.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s central contracts will be discussed during the BCCI’s meeting of the apex council on December 22. The call on contracts of women players in domestic cricket will also be taken.
According to a PTI report, the 31st AGM will be attended virtually by the top officials of the Indian Cricket Board, and a call will be taken on the contracts of the two senior players. Kohli and Rohit have retired from T20Is and Test cricket and are only active in ODI cricket.
They were kept in the A+ category in the previous cycle of the contracts despite bidding adieu to the shortest format after winning the T20 World Cup in 2024. The contract tenure was for the period from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravinbdra Jadeja were part of the top bracket as well.
It remains to be seen if the top brass of the BCCI will continue to keep Rohit and Kohli in the A+ bracket or if they will be demoted to Grade A. If their contract bracket is brought down, they would face a reduction of INR 2 crore from their previous retainorship. The payouts stand at INR 7 crore (A+), INR 5 crore (A), INR 3 crore (B), and INR 1 crore (C).
Shubman Gill is likely to get a promotion, moving to an A-plus category, alongside Bumrah and Jadeja. Gill was in the A category. He is currently leading India in Tests and ODIs and is the vice-captain in T20Is.
The meeting will also address the revision in the remuneration slabs for umpires and match referees, and the digitalisation of the platforms.
Meanwhile, Kohli and Rohit recently played in the three-match series against South Africa. Virtat scored over 300 runs and was named the Player of the Series. Rohit hit two fifties in India’s 2-1 win.
