There are less than 2 months left for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 to start. But even before this, the news of the breakdown of relations between the tournament's biggest broadcaster JioStar and ICC created a stir. A report claimed that Jiostar, which broadcasts the tournament in India, is preparing to withdraw from the broadcast agreement with ICC. But after about a week of this report, all speculations have come to an end. ICC and Jiostar made it clear in a joint statement that their relationship will continue and the broadcaster will fulfill its contract.

The deal was for 4 years

Recently, a report by the English newspaper Economic Times revealed that JioStar ICC Had made up his mind to break his broadcasting deal midway till 2027. It was also claimed in the report that the huge price of the deal is becoming heavy for the company, due to which it is facing financial losses and hence it is ready to leave the deal midway. JioStar had acquired the broadcasting rights of ICC events in India for about Rs 27 thousand crore for the cycle from 2024 to 2027.

ICC-Jiostar deal will remain intact

This report created a stir and everyone started wondering who would be the next broadcaster. But on Friday, December 12, ICC and JioStar rejected all these speculations and reports in a statement. A joint statement issued by both the parties said, "JioStar is committed to fully comply with its contractual responsibilities. Both organizations are focused on providing uninterrupted and world-class coverage of ICC events, including the most anticipated global tournaments like the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup, for Indian fans."

Not only this, it was also told in this statement that all the claims of JioStar coming out of the agreement are wrong and it remains intact as an Indian broadcaster. It said, "The ICC and JioStar have noted recent media reports regarding the status of ICC's media rights deal in India. The positions of both organizations are inconsistent with these reports. The existing agreement between the ICC and JioStar remains in full force and law and JioStar remains the official media partner of the ICC in India."
