Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers will face off in the final of the Women’s Big Bash League at Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Saturday.
While the Hurricanes will be eyeing their first title triumph, the Scorchers will be looking to clinch silverware for the second time, after being crowned champions in 2021-22.
Hobart Hurricanes qualified for the final directly as it topped the standings after the league stage, winning seven out of 10 matches. Meanwhile, Perth, which was third on the points table with six wins in 10 games, reached the final after beating Sydney Sixers by 11 runs in the Challenger.
The title clash will feature two of the tournament’s top three run-getters. Perth Scorchers opener and Australian veteran Beth Mooney is the leading run-scorer of this season of the WBBL, with 516 runs in 12 innings. Hurricanes’ Danni Wyatt-Hodge from England is third on that list, with 416 runs in nine innings.
Among the bowlers, Kiwi all-rounder Sophie Devine has led the wicket charts for the Scorchers with 15 scalps in 12 innings. Australia all-rounder Heather Graham tops the list for the Hurricanes with 14 wickets in 10 matches.
The finalists had met once earlier in this tournament, with Hobart Hurricanes registering a comfortable seven-wicket win while chasing a 187-run target, thanks to Wyatt-Hodge (55) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (81) scoring half-centuries.
