Key Points:
According to the brand finance report, the total brand value of IPL has decreased to $ 8.5 billion in 2025. Mega auction, franchise instability and market changes are the major reasons for this. The continuous decline is being considered as a serious warning for BCCI and the teams.
Delhi: There has only been mention of its increase since the beginning of IPL. Especially when we talk about the brand value of IPL franchises, there has been a surprising increase in it. This increase is evidenced by the amount taken by BCCI for the later teams as compared to the initial team formation. In such a situation, if it is known that amidst commercial and geopolitical difficulties, the brand value of top franchises has declined in the last 5 years, then it would be nothing more than a surprise.
Continuous decline in IPL brand value
According to a report by Brand Finance, these difficulties engulfed the IPL in 2025, which engulfed the world, and the brand value declined. According to this report, the valuation of the IPL ecosystem has come down from US $ 9.2 billion (approximately Rs 82700 crore) in 2024 to US $ 8.5 billion (approximately Rs 76100 crore) now. The result is that since 2023, the league is continuously below the benchmark of US $ 10 billion. These figures are like a challenge and warning for IPL. The time has come for change and handling of IPL.
This decline was not only due to the league being halted midway due to India-Pakistan tensions last season. It was also due to the instability in the franchises since the mega auction and the market turmoil following the Real Money Gaming (RMG) ban in India. The big teams which were showing more than 30 percent increase in brand value also faltered.
