Delhi: Veteran opener Rohit Sharma is looking more fit and slimmer than before after his return to Team India. Former Indian leg spinner Amit Mishra has made an important comment regarding his fitness. Mishra believes that Rohit Sharma was fit earlier too, but he was often judged unfairly only because of his body.
During a podcast on MensXP’s YouTube channel, Amit Mishra said that he has played cricket with Rohit Sharma, and even during that time people used to call him ‘heavy’. However, according to him, Rohit never slowed down on the field. Mishra told that Rohit was not only capable of scoring runs, but was also completely active while fielding. He said that it was not that he would just bat and walk out of the field, rather he would contribute in every department.
The right-arm spin bowler also raised questions on the thinking regarding fitness in the current era. He said that every player’s body is not the same and everyone’s body type is different. Nowadays fitness is mostly associated with looking slim, whereas real fitness is determined by the capacity and performance of the body. According to him, it is better that players maintain their natural fitness and pay attention to proper eating habits.
Mishra warned that being in too much of a hurry just to look fit sometimes proves to be harmful. He told that there are many examples where players tried to show themselves fit in a short time, but later they had to face physical problems. He believes that good sleep, balanced diet and natural training is the only way to stay fit for a long time.
Amit Mishra said that going to the gym is a good thing, but running and practicing on the field is equally important. It is very important to have the right mindset for fitness, so that the player can keep himself healthy and effective for a long time.
Rohit Sharma was chosen Player of the Tournament in the recently concluded ODI series against Australia. In this series, he scored a total of 202 runs, which also included a brilliant century innings played in Sydney.
Apart from this, against South Africa on home ground, Rohit Sharma scored 146 runs with the help of a half-century and maintained his excellent form.
