Rohit Sharma returned to domestic cricket for Mumbai as he took the field to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in his team’s first match against Sikkim. He was brilliant with the bat, scoring a hundred in a winning cause. He recorded his highest-ever score in List A cricket for Mumbai. Rohit was lauded by fans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur and they also took a dig at India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir.

According to a report by Sportstar, a section of fans taunted Gambhir after Rohit completed his ton. “Gambhir dekh raha hai na Rohit ka jalwa? (Gambhir, Are you watching Rohit’s spectacle?).”

There were several reports that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are miffed with Gambhir, especially after the head of the support staff and chief selector Ajit Agarkar refused to confirm their places for the 2027 ODI World Cup. They were told to prove themselves in domestic cricket to stand a chance to play for the national side. The fans were responding to these stories.

Rohit Sharma’s match-winning knock

Rohit Sharma amassed 155 runs off just 94 against Sikkim. The former India captain completed his ton in 62 balls. He recorded a strike rate of 164.89.

Rohit hit 9 sixes and 18 fours. The right-handed batter added 141 runs for the first wicket with Angkrish Raguvanshi (38). He then stitched a stand of 85 runs for the second wicket with all-rounder Musheer Khan. Mumbai completed the target of 237 runs in just 30.3 overs.

Virat Kohli also accumulated a century for Delhi against Andhra Pradesh.
