'Earthquake' in Bangladesh Premier League
Bangladesh Premier League: BPL started with great enthusiasm in Bangladesh but now the existence of this tournament is under threat. A day before the start of the 2025-26 season of Bangladesh Premier League, the franchise has withdrawn its name. The name of the franchise is Chattogram Royals, which was owned by Triangle Services Limited, but according to reports, now the control of the team has gone to Bangladesh Cricket Board. The team owner decided to withdraw his name before the start of the 12th season of the tournament. The tournament is starting from 26th December and now due to lack of sponsors, Triangle Service Limited has given up the ownership rights of the team.
According to ESPNcricinfo, BPL chairman Iftekhar Rahman said, 'They have given the letter to BCB three hours ago, so we have officially taken over the team. No one had any idea of this. The franchise has written in the letter that due to media reports they are not able to get sponsors for the team. This season we have adopted a strict stance regarding honesty and payment of players. We don't want a situation like the Rajshahi franchise last year.
The BPL's inaugural season, which began in 2012, faced several payment-related problems, which improved between 2016 and 2019, but these problems resurfaced in the last season. The most serious issue came to light when the players of Darbar Rajshahi boycotted a practice session and a match over payments including daily allowances and hotel bills, which had to be resolved by the government. Let us tell you that former cricketer Habibul Bashar has been made the director of the Chattogram team. Mizanur Rahman Babul has been appointed as head coach and Nafees Iqbal as team manager.
