Team India is going to return to the field again in a few days. The Indian team will face New Zealand in the first series of the new year. New Zealand team is coming on India tour in January, in which ODI and T20 series are to be played. The ODI series will start from January 11, but the team for this has not been announced yet, whereas the team for the T20 series to be held from January 21 has been announced, which has surprised everyone. But now it seems that the reason for this could be the fitness of Shreyas Iyer, who has started batting practice after suffering from injury and can make a comeback from this ODI series.
Indian ODI team Vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been out of the cricket field for the last 2 months due to injury. Iyer was injured during a match on the Australia tour in October. In the last match of the series in Sydney on 25 October, Iyer suffered an injury to his ribs while diving to take a catch, which proved to be quite serious. Due to this, he had surgery in Sydney itself and was admitted in the hospital there for a few days. Due to this, he could not even be a part of the series against South Africa.
Since then, 31 year old Shreyas Iyer was resting at his home and going through the recovery process. Iyer, who was gradually regaining his fitness, finally practiced batting for the first time after 60 days. A report in Times of India has revealed that the Indian batsman batted for about an hour on December 24 in Mumbai. During this time he did not feel any kind of problem. After this, he reached BCCI's Center of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru on 25 December, where he will complete the further rehabilitation process.
It is believed that Iyer may stay in CoE for about 6 days, where the medical team will keep an eye on his fitness. Although Iyer has his eyes set on the New Zealand ODI series starting from January 11, BCCI sources have been quoted as saying that playing in it could be a very close affair. However, there is a greater possibility of playing in the further rounds of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which will continue during the ODI series. However, Team India may be announced for the ODI series in the first week of January and Iyer may get a place in it, but there may also be a condition of proving fitness in it.
