India scored 221 for two in the fourth women’s T20I against Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday to record its highest score in the format.
This total overtakes its previous best of 217 runs, which came against West Indies in Navi Mumbai last year. The next best for India is 210, against England in Nottingham earlier this year.
Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma led the charge for India, putting on 162 runs for the first wicket after Sri Lanka won the toss and inserted the home side. During the innings, Smriti also became the fourth batter to complete 10,000 runs in women’s internationals.
Richa Ghosh consolidated after the fiery start, smashing an unbeaten 40 off just 16 balls. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur ended not out on 16 off 10.
