Tim David has been ruled out of the ongoing BBL 2025-26 after the scans confirmed a grade 2 strain in his right hamstring.

However, Tim David is expected to be available for the T20 World Cup 2026, which kicks off on February 07.

The injury occurred while Tim David was running between the wickets during Hobart Hurricanes’ 4-wicket win over the Perth Scorchers on December 26. The Hurricanes had confirmed that Tim David would undergo scans on December 27 to assess the extent of the injury.

The BBL franchise Hobart Hurricanes has given a statement saying that, “David’s rehabilitation timeline has him tracking to be available for selection for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.”

Tim David has also suffered a hamstring injury while playing for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2025 and missed the final few matches, including the title-winning finale against the Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad.

On the other hand, Cricket Australia has also revealed that Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins, with the pair expected to be named in the squad for the marquee tournament to be played in Sri Lanka and India.

Josh Hazlewood has re-commended running after a hamstring injury, and Achilles soreness saw him miss the entire Ashes series against England, with a CA spokesperson saying “he remains on track to be available for the T20 World Cup.”

On the other hand, Pat Cummins, who made a solitary appearance to wrap up an Ashes series victory in the Adelaide Test, has been given ‘a planned period of load management’ to continue his recovery from back stress that forced him out of the Perth and Brisbane Tests.

The veteran spinner Nathan Lyon is less clear after the 38-year-old underwent surgery to repair a high-grade right hamstring injury sustained while fielding on the final day of the Adelaide Oval Ashes victory.

“Nathan has entered an extended period of rehabilitation that will rule him out for the remainder of the domestic season,” the spokesman said.

“His return to play timeline will be determined at a later date based on his rehabilitation progression over the coming months.”

This is the second significant soft tissue injury for Nathan Lyon in the past three years after he blew a calf at Lord’s during the 2023 Ashes in the UK.
