Rishabh Pant In Vijay Hazare Trophy: The end of 2025 was disappointing for the Indian team's explosive wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant. In an important match of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, the Delhi team led by captain Pant had to face a crushing defeat at the hands of Odisha. Chasing the target of 273 runs, Delhi was reduced to 193 runs in just 42.3 overs. During this, Rishabh Pant also could not do anything special with the bat and lost his wicket cheaply.
Captain Pant failed to score runs in this match. He faced 28 balls and added only 24 runs with the help of 3 fours and 1 six. Despite spending time at the crease, he could not convert it into a big innings, which proved to be a setback for the team, due to which Pant continued to struggle in the tournament. He has scored a total of 121 runs in four matches, in which his best score has been 70 runs. In the remaining innings he was out on 5 and 22 runs.
This poor form is an alarm bell for Pant, especially when the announcement of the Indian team for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand is near.
Pant, who had already lost his place in the T20 format, now has question marks in the ODI team as well. With the selectors' eyes fixed on domestic performance, a return to form has become necessary. Pant's ability to bounce back is well known, but lack of consistency in white ball cricket is troubling him.The BCCI Senior Selection Committee can announce the squad for the ODI series to be played against New Zealand on January 3 or Sunday, January 4. According to reports, star wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant may be dropped from this team.
Pant played his last ODI in August 2024 against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Now there is a strong possibility of Ishan Kishan getting a chance in place of Pant, who has attracted everyone's attention with his excellent performance in domestic cricket.
