Perth Scorchers players were recently seen physically pushing their Uber cab to reach the stadium on their Big Bash League matchday. In a funny pre-match incident ahead of their clash against the Sydney Thunder on December 30, several Scorchers stars were stranded mid-journey after their vehicle broke down.
Australia internationals Ashton Agar and Aaron Hardie, along with Laurie Evans and young pacer Mahli Beardman, were travelling together in an Uber to Sydney Showground Stadium. Midway through the ride, the car malfunctioned and came to a halt, leaving the players stranded on the roadside.
With no immediate assistance available and match time approaching, the four cricketers stepped out and began pushing the vehicle to the side of the road in an attempt to get it moving again. The incident came to light when commentators raised the matter during the broadcast while the Perth Scorchers were fielding. Laurie Evans, who was mic’d up with an earpiece, was asked about reports suggesting the players had arrived at the stadium under very strange circumstances. Evans confirmed the story, saying the Uber had broken down and the group had to give it a hand to the side of the road.
Despite the disruption, the Scorchers eventually made it to the stadium in time.Watch the video below:
Meanwhile, Perth Scorchers delivered a brilliant performance against Sydney Thunder.
Batting first, the Ashton Turner-led team posted 202 for 8 in their 20 overs. Turner led from the front with an unbeaten 99 off just 41 deliveries, lacing his knock with eight boundaries and eight sixes. His innings eventually earned him the Player of the Match award. In reply, Sydney Thunder never truly threatened the Scorchers’ total.
Although David Warner and Matthew Gilkes provided a solid start, the Thunder lost momentum after losing wickets in regular intervals. Perth’s bowlers bowled the opposition out for 131 in 17.3 overs to seal a 71-run victory.
