The new year has started with the retirement of a legend from international cricket. Australia's legendary batsman Usman Khawaja, who has already won the Ashes series against England, has announced his retirement from international cricket. Khawaja made this big announcement just before the last test match of the series to be held in Sydney. With this, the confusion and speculations that had been going on for several weeks came to an end. The fifth and last Test match of this series will start from Sunday 4 January in Sydney.

On Friday, January 2, two days before the Sydney Test, Usman Khawaja announced his retirement in a press conference. With this, his career will end exactly 14 years later at the same place where it started in 2011. Even in 2011, Khawaja started his career with the Ashes Test against England in the beginning of January. This left-handed batsman, who hails from Sydney, had started his first class career from his home ground and now he is ending his Test career here also.
