Two titles in three seasons. Mumbai Indians enjoys an enviable record in the Women’s Premier League, and as another season beckons, the Women in Blue start as the favourite.

Arguably the most successful franchise, Mumbai Indians’ biggest strength lies in retaining its core players — Harmanpreet Kaur as the captain, Hayley Matthews, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Amanjot Kaur, and G. Kamalini.

While the side revolves around its captain Harmanpreet, there’s a perfect blend of youth and experience.

STRENGTHS

Mumbai Indians stayed loyal to a continuity-first philosophy at the mega auction. Retaining Nat Sciver-Brunt, Harmanpreet Kaur, Hayley Matthews, Amanjot Kaur and G. Kamalini, and bringing back Amelia Kerr for Rs. 3 crore, ensured the core of a title-winning side remained intact. The defending champion also added depth to its pace attack, signing Indian youngster Nalla Reddy and Australians Milly Illingworth and Nicola Carey, a T20 World Cup winner.

WEAKNESSES

MI is heavily dependent on its all-rounders. In the 2025 season, Sciver-Brunt carried the side with 523 runs and 12 wickets. Kerr, despite winning the Purple Cap with 18 wickets, must contribute more with the bat after managing just 73 runs. The two-time champion also faces uncertainty behind the stumps. With Yastika Bhatia having moved to Gujarat Giants, the choice is between Kamalini’s inexperience and Rahila Firdous’ domestic resilience.

PLAYER TO WATCH OUT FOR – NAT SCIVER-BRUNT

Sciver-Brunt remains MI’s axis. She led England to the ODI World Cup semifinals and featured in the Hobart Hurricanes’ maiden WBBL title triumph last year, underlining her big-match credentials in white-ball cricket.
