NEW DELHI: In a tragic incident, former Mizoram Ranji Trophy player Khawlhring Lalremruata suffered a stroke while playing in a local cricket match on Thursday and subsequently passed away after immediate efforts failed to revive him.

The 38-year-old was representing Venghnuai Raiders Cricket Club (VRCC) against Chawnpui ILMOV Cricket Club in the Khaled Memorial Second Division Screening Tournament when the heartbreaking incident occurred.

After completing his batting, the cricketer complained of chest pain while walking back to the pavilion, according to officials and eyewitnesses. He collapsed shortly thereafter and lost consciousness, and despite being given immediate medical assistance, he was later declared dead.

Lalremruata had previously represented Mizoram twice in the Ranji Trophy and made seven appearances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

He remained deeply committed to the game at the local level, turning out for multiple clubs over the years and playing an important role in nurturing cricket at the grassroots in the state.

Confirming his passing, the Cricket Association of Mizoram (CAM) said Lalremruata suffered a stroke during the match. Describing his death as a significant loss to cricket in Mizoram, the association extended its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the wider cricketing community.
