Delhi: There is not much time left for the start of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, but before the tournament, a big controversy has come to light regarding Bangladesh cricket. This whole matter has attracted the attention of the international cricket world.

Demand raised regarding tournament venue

Recently, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had sent a letter to ICC demanding that all the matches of Bangladesh in T20 World Cup 2026 should be played in Sri Lanka instead of India. The board cited security reasons behind this. The surprising thing is that on January 8, BCB wrote a letter to ICC for the second time, calling the safety of players a major issue.

Tamim Iqbal’s reaction

Former Bangladesh captain and veteran batsman Tamim Iqbal has reacted to this controversy. During the trophy launch of Zia Inter University Cricket Tournament, Tamim said that after his separation from the board, he came to know about this entire matter through media reports. He clarified that he did not want to give any statement in haste.

Emphasis on solution through dialogue

Tamim said that the long-term interests of Bangladesh cricket should be kept foremost in any decision. According to him, resolution of all these issues is possible through mutual dialogue. He also reminded that a large part of the income of Bangladesh Cricket Board depends on the funds received from ICC, which is around 90 to 95 percent.

He said, “Ever since I stepped down from the board, I have come to know about this news only through the media. I do not want to make any sudden statement on this right now, but I would definitely like to say that we should take any decision keeping in mind the betterment of Bangladesh cricket. We should try to resolve this entire issue through dialogue. The future of Bangladesh cricket comes first and we get 90 to 95 percent of the money from the ICC and we should not forget this.”

Tamim came under the target of the board

Talking about the welfare of Bangladesh cricket proved too much for Tamim Iqbal. M. Nazmul Islam, a member of BCB, made serious allegations against Tamim and even called him an ‘Indian agent’. After this statement the controversy has deepened further.

questions looming over the future

This entire incident has raised many questions on the future of Bangladesh cricket and the working style of the board. Now it will be interesting to see how ICC and BCB resolve this issue.

What is the whole matter?

The situation worsened after Mustafizur Rahman was dropped from the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). After this, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) indicated that in the current circumstances it would not be appropriate to send the team to India. BCB believes that there is no clarity regarding the safety of the players, due to which playing in India in the World Cup can be risky.
