In a rare and eye-catching moment during the Big Bash League 2025–26, Adelaide Strikers wicketkeeper Mackenzie Harvey pulled off an extraordinary catch in front of the stumps to dismiss Hobart Hurricanes opener Tim Ward in match 28 at the Bellerive Oval.

The incident occurred in the eighth over of the Hurricanes’ innings. Facing left-arm spinner Tabraiz Shamsi, Ward attempted an aggressive heave over midwicket but only managed a thick inside edge. The ball popped up awkwardly off the bat, looping just in front of the stumps.

Reacting in a flash, Harvey sprinted forward from behind the wicket and completed a sharp catch while skillfully avoiding a dangerous collision with the batter, a moment that instantly caught attention for its rarity and presence of mind.

Mackenzie Harvey’s street-smart brilliance behind the stumps

Harvey’s athletic take ended Ward’s stay at 17 off 17 balls, reducing the Hurricanes to 82 for 3 in 7.2 overs. The dismissal underlined the wicketkeeper’s awareness and agility, as catches taken in front of the stumps are rarely seen in professional cricket.

Despite the setback, Hobart Hurricanes recovered well to post a competitive 178 for 6 in their 20 overs. Opener Mitchell Owen provided a blistering start with 33 off just nine deliveries, while Rehan Ahmed, Nikhil Chaudhary, Matthew Wade, and Macalister Wright, who remained unbeaten, added valuable contributions through the middle and death overs.

For Adelaide Strikers, Luke Wood claimed two wickets but conceded 48 runs in his four overs. Jamie Overton also struck twice, while spinners Tabraiz Shamsi and Lloyd Pope picked up one wicket each across their combined seven overs.
