Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has built a reputation as one of the most fearless and dynamic cricketers of his generation. However, his international career has also been repeatedly disrupted by serious injuries at crucial moments. Most recently, Pant suffered another setback just ahead of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand in Vadodara on January 11, ruling him out of the contest.
Over the years, several major injuries have sidelined the left-hander and affected his momentum at the highest level. Today, CricTracker has a look at times when unfortunate injuries, both on and off the field, ruled the stumper-batter out of cricketing action for a prolonged period of time.

Life-threatening car accident in 2022One of the most challenging episodes of Pant’s life occurred on December 30, 2022, when he was involved in a horrific car accident near Roorkee in Uttarakhand. While driving his Mercedes SUV, the vehicle rammed into a divider, flipped multiple times, and eventually caught fire. Pant managed to escape the wreckage with the help of bystanders from Haryana Roadways, who risked their lives to rescue him.
The accident resulted in multiple serious injuries, forcing Pant into a long and demanding rehabilitation process. As a result, he was ruled out of international cricket for an extended period and also missed the entire IPL 2023 season while representing Delhi Capitals. This incident marked a major pause in what had been a rapidly rising career.
2. Toe fracture during 2025 England tour

Pant suffered another significant blow in 2025 during the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford.
While attempting a reverse sweep on Day 1, he inside-edged a delivery from Chris Woakes onto his right foot. The impact caused immediate pain, with blood visibly seeping from his toe. Pant had to be taken off the field on a buggy.Subsequent scans confirmed a fracture in his right toe, ruling him out of the remainder of the Test series. The injury sidelined him for more than two months, during which he missed the Asia Cup 2025 and the Test series against the West Indies.
1. Side strain ahead of New Zealand series in 2026

Most recently, Pant was ruled out of the New Zealand ODI series in 2026 after sustaining a side strain during a practice session in Vadodara. While batting in the nets at the BCA Stadium, he felt sudden discomfort in his right lateral abdominal area.
MRI scans later revealed an oblique muscle tear.
Following the diagnosis, Dhruv Jurel was named as his replacement for the series.
