The International Cricket Council on Monday, January 12, refused to give any positive response to Bangladesh’s demand to change the venue of the T20 World Cup matches to be held in India. The ICC clarified that its assessment of the security concerns raised by the Bangladesh Sports Ministry did not identify any serious risk to playing the match in India.

At the same time, according to ICC sources, the organization’s risk assessment report has not indicated any specific or direct threat to the Bangladesh team’s matches in the tournament starting on February 22 in India. Independent assessments by security experts have rated the security risk in India as low to moderate, which is in line with the profile of global sporting events.

Let us tell you, ICC also said that no direct threat was found to Bangladesh team officials in India. The risk associated with Bangladesh’s matches, particularly in Kolkata and Mumbai, was also rated as low to moderate, and no risks were indicated that could not be effectively addressed by established security plans.

At the same time, earlier in Dhaka, Bangladesh Sports Ministry advisor Asif Nazrul had alleged that Mustafizur Rahman may face danger from matches in India, especially after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) dropped him from the IPL. He had said that due to this Bangladesh may have to consider calling back its team.

Let us tell you, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Monday retracted from Nazrul’s statement and said that this statement was part of the internal conversation between BCB and the security department of ICC. The BCB took a strong stance and said that despite their requests regarding security in India, no formal response has been received from the ICC.

The ICC source said, “The ICC has full confidence in the BCCI and other local authorities who are handling the security arrangements. The ICC also said that its security planning is an ongoing process, and further steps are being taken in consultation with all relevant parties, including the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

The Bangladesh government recently banned the telecast of IPL in anger after Mustafizur Rahman was dropped from Kolkata Knight Riders.
