Bangladesh cricketers have threatened to boycott all format matches until BCB director Najmul Islam quits his post for his controversial comments. Mohammad Mithun, who is the president of the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB), confirmed the move after Nazmul Islam spoke to the media.

Najmul targeted the players for their commitment, which led to strong reactions. The problem started when the BCB director said that certain players had failed to justify the resources they had received.

“We spend so much on them, but they have failed to deliver. They haven’t been able to win a single ICC tournament. We could ask them to return the money we spent on them,” Islam said.

The comments were not taken lightly, with former players asking for accountability from the officials of the BCB.

BCB reacted after the backlash, saying Najmul’s comments didn’t reflect the values of the board.

“The BCB doesn’t endorse the statement unless it is issued by the designated spokesperson or the media department,” the board said.

BCB further added that they hold the current and former players in the highest regard. “Players remain the heart of Bangladesh cricket, and their welfare is our top priority,” the statement further added.

Najmul had earlier called former captain Tamim Iqbal an Indian agent after the legendary player urged the BCB not to take any action in a hurry after Mustafizur Rahman was released from the squad of the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Former Bangladesh skipper Mohammad Ashraful said that administrators turning against the players leads to a negative atmosphere. “Issues should be handled internally. Such remarks demoralise players and damage the image of Bangladesh cricket,” he said in a social media post.
