BCB clarified that this decision has been taken in accordance with the powers conferred on the President under Article 31 of the BCB Constitution, the objective of which is to ensure effective and orderly conduct of the affairs of the Board. The BCB President himself will play the role of acting Chairman of the Finance Committee till further orders.”

The Board once again reiterated that the interests of the players are its top priority. BCB is fully committed to protecting the honor, dignity and rights of all players. In these challenging times, the Board has appealed to all cricketers to maintain a high level of professional commitment and discipline. Also, the BCB hopes that the players will continue their participation in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and contribute to the bright future of cricket in the country.

Why did Nazmul Islam come into controversy? A new controversy broke out after M. Nazmul Islam called former captain Tamim Iqbal an ‘Indian agent’. Tamim Iqbal appealed for restraint and prudence in this matter, but Nazmul’s comment spread further anger in the cricket community. Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) had termed Nazmul’s statement as completely condemnable and demanded immediate action.

“The statements of M. Nazmul Islam had also created resentment among the players. Even before this, the players had demanded the removal of Nazmul from the post and had warned of boycotting the cricket activities. Due to this, the BCB was shocked and issued a show cause notice to Nazmul Islam. The players had made it clear that if Nazmul was not removed from the post, they would boycott all the cricket activities. After this, on January 15 (Thursday), the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match was boycotted and the players went on strike, due to which the toss of the match between Noukhali Express and Chattogram Royals could not be held on time and due to the nationwide boycott, both the teams did not reach the field on time.

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) matches to be held on January 15 are also under threat after Bangladesh players refused to play. Apart from this, the interim government of Bangladesh had refused to send its team for the T20 World Cup 2026 to be held in India. However, ICC is in constant touch with BCB so that the T20 World Cup 2026 can be organized smoothly.

Moreover, tensions between India and Bangladesh have further increased since Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was dropped from the IPL 2026 season by BCCI.
