The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru has been granted permission to host Indian Premier League and international games, the Karnataka State Cricket Association announced on Saturday.

“We are pleased to announce that the Home Department, Government of Karnataka, has granted permission to the Karnataka State Cricket Association to host international and IPL matches at the iconic venue. The permission is subject to compliance with specific terms and conditions prescribed by the government and concerned authorities,” the association said in a statement.

Cricket at the venue had been suspended since June last year after 11 people died and several suffered injuries in a stampede during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s title celebrations.

Recently, the ground was excluded from the list of venues for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy were also taken away from the iconic venue and shifted to BCCI’s Centre of Excellence.

Hosting matches at the ground was subject to the implementation of recommendations from the Justice Michael D’Cunha report, formulated as part of the investigation into the tragedy.
