Delhi: The three-match ODI series played between India and New Zealand has now become history. Even though the Indian team had to face a 2-1 defeat in this prestigious series, the individual performance of the great batsman Virat Kohli remained a topic of discussion. Kohli showed consistency throughout the series and played an important role for Team India in every match.
Kohli missed a century in the first ODI, but he gave strength to India by playing an excellent inning of 93 runs. In the second ODI, he could not play a big innings and was out after scoring 23 runs. However, in the decisive third match, Kohli displayed his experience and class brilliantly and played a memorable inning of 124 runs. With this century he completed his 54th century in ODI career and 85th century in international cricket. In this three-match series, a total of 240 runs came from Kohli’s bat.
In this series, Virat not only scored runs but also made many special achievements in his name. He became the second player to hit 150 sixes while batting at number three in ODI cricket. Apart from this, he also crossed the figure of 22 thousand runs in bilateral series of all formats. He has reached second place in terms of scoring 50 or more runs the most number of times in ODI history against New Zealand.
Kohli also held the record for scoring most centuries on different grounds in the ODI format. Apart from becoming the player who scored the most centuries against New Zealand in all formats, he also became the second highest run scorer against this team. The record of scoring most runs at number three in ODI cricket is also now in the name of Kohli.
Virat Kohli is one of the most successful batsmen in the world in ODI cricket. Since 2008 till now, he has played 311 ODI matches. Out of these, he has scored 14,797 runs in 299 innings at an average of 58.71. He has 54 centuries and 77 half-centuries in his name in ODI cricket. His highest score in ODI is 183 runs, which is considered one of his best innings.
The series may have been out of India’s hands, but this performance of Virat Kohli once again proves that he is a batsman who can take responsibility on the big stage.
