West Indies were at its absolute best at the Wankhede Stadium as they delivered a statement performance in Mumbai, defeating England by 45 runs in a high-octane Group C clash of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

After being put in to bat, the Windies rode on a sensational unbeaten 76 off 42 balls from Sherfane Rutherfordto post a daunting 196/6 in 20 overs. He found solid support from Roston Chase (34) and Jason Holder (33), with the Caribbean side accelerating brilliantly in the latter half of the innings. Despite playing a staggering 49 dot balls in 120 balls, they put a daunting total of 196 on board, a typical West Indian way of T20 cricket.

Chasing 197 on a typically good Wankhede surface, England needed a strong start and Phil Salt and Jos Buttler were successful in providing that. But both the power-hitters could not convert their starts, while the rest of the English batting struggled to counter the Windies’ disciplined bowling.

Captain Harry Brook attempted to stabilise the innings, but regular wickets derailed the momentum. The Three Lions’ star performer against Nepal, Sam Curran showed brief resistance with an aggressive cameo, but the required rate kept climbing.

West Indies’ spinners tightened the screws in the middle overs before the pacers finished the job at the death, restricting England to 166 and sealing a comprehensive 30-run victory. This emphatic performance by the Windies have certainly created an interesting scenario in Group C, with Scotland now claiming the second spot.
