India captain Harmanpreet Kaur (54 off 70) looked in fine touch during her half-century outing in the second ODI against Australia Women on Friday, February 27 at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. However, her 70-ball stay at the crease had an awkward moment where the India skipper escaped a head injury after mis-hitting a scoop shot off Megan Schutt during the 39th over of the first innings.

As Schutt delivered a slower ball, Harmanpreet had premeditated to hit the ball behind the wickets since there was a gap wide open, calling for that particular shot. However, the delivery lacked pace and was bowled wide outside the off-stump, due to which Harmanpreet misjudged and could not time the ball well enough.

The ball ricocheted after an edge off her blade and hit right at the facial grill of her helmet.

Despite the skipper's valiant efforts with the bat, the Women in Blue could post only 251 after 50 overs while batting first.

The target wasn't enough for the Aussies, as Georgia Voll (101) and Phoebe Litchfield (80) made light work of the run chase on Friday to go 2-0 up in the ODI series. Harmanpreet reflected that her side needs to bat well enough, unlike in the first couple of games, and wishes to do so in the third.

"Definitely we didn't bat well today...we wanted 300 on the board. Again we make the same mistakes and losing wickets and we were short of a lot of runs. No matter batting first or second, we have to bat really well. In last two games we didn't bat well and that's cost us.

Hopefully in the next game we do that," Harmanpreet reflected on the loss during the post-match presentation.

The third ODI of the multi-format series will be played on Sunday, March 1 at the same venue. The 36-year-old will be hoping to gain a consolation victory in this match before moving on to red-ball cricket for the one-off Test, to be played from March 6.
