Former Australia fast bowler Damien Fleming has heaped praise on the meteoric rise of star bowler Jasprit Bumrah. The 32-year-old played a crucial role in guiding India to the 2026 T20 World Cup title by beating New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, as the Men in Blue clinched their record-extending third title in the tournament.

Fleming is stunned by how good Bumrah keeps getting at each passing tournament. The former pacer stated that there seems to be no stopping the ace pacer in recent times regardless of the format of the game.

“That slower ball of his is like a curveball in Baseball.

It’s absolutely brilliant. You think with these great fast bowlers, when do they plateau? Bumrah, with each big tournament or big series, is enhancing his reputation. When will it ever stop? He is an absolute freak, Jasprit Bumrah,” Fleming was quoted as saying on Indian Express.                  

Bumrah has been one of India’s most important performers at the recently concluded tournament. The right-arm pacer took 4-15 in the final against the BlackCaps to help secure a comfortable 96-run victory. His spell in the showpiece game also saw him finish the tournament as the joint-highest wicket-taker along with teammate Varun Chakravarthy with 14 scalps to his name. 

Fleming’s fast bowling partner and Australia legend Glenn McGrath, meanwhile, shared his concern about Bumrah’s fitness when it comes to playing the longest form of the game. According to the three-time World Cup winner, playing two or three Test matches in a row could be a feat way beyond the Indian bowler’s reach based on his age and his previous injury record. 

“My concern, as he’s a little bit older now, is that playing back-to-back Test matches is getting tougher for him.

Is he going to just start focusing on white-ball cricket? That’ll be a massive loss to Test cricket if he did. We might only see him rarely in Test matches, maybe against Australia,” McGrath said as quoted on Indian Express.  

Bumrah, meanwhile, will shift his attention from international cricket and will soon join the Mumbai Indians camp ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League season.
