The Governing Council of the Indian Premier League (IPL) expressed its condolences on the death of Jan William Langford, a broadcast engineer from Britain, who was working with the Indian Cricket Board for IPL 2026 and assured full assistance to his family. The 76-year-old was found unconscious in his hotel room in Mumbai on Monday, following which he was taken to a hospital by the management.

He was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“The IPL Governing Council and all stakeholders involved express their deepest condolences on the untimely demise of Mr. Ian Williams Langford, a dedicated broadcast engineer who was an integral part of our broadcast operations. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends back home,” the IPL said in a statement.

“The IPL is committed to providing all necessary support and assistance to Mr. Langford’s family during this incredibly difficult time.

“The health, safety and overall security of every member involved in the smooth functioning of the IPL continue to remain of utmost importance,” the IPL added in the statement.

Langford was in India for the ongoing 19th edition of the cash-rich league and was involved with the broadcasting team for the matches. Nothing suspicious was found in his postmortem report, according to the Marine Drive police station.

A case of unnatural death was registered, and the investigations are underway, a police official added.
