England opener Ben Duckett has been fined following a speeding offence he committed hours before the start of The Hundred game in 2025. The left-hander admitted to going fast at 93mph (approximately 150 km/h).
According to reports, Duckett was speeding through a 70mph road near Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, at around 1:30 in the afternoon on August 24, 2025. The incident took place on the A50 motorway whilst driving his Land Rover Defender.
For his speeding offence, the 31-year-old was ordered by the magistrate to pay a GBP 700 fine, GBP 120 in costs, and a GBP 280 victim surcharge at Cannock Magistrates' Court.
He was also given four penalty points on his license.According to the BBC, Duckett has admitted to the speeding charges and later pleaded guilty under the Single Justice Procedure, after a criminal prosecutor was brought in due to the excessive speed at which he was driving.
Later that same day, after his speeding offence, Duckett formed part of the Birmingham Phoenix squad, which played against the Manchester Originals at Old Trafford. The Birmingham Phoenix secured a comfortable seven-wicket win on that occasion with the left-handed opener scoring an unbeaten 49 from 38 deliveries.
Duckett has had a difficult winter, where he has struggled for form. The Nottinghamshire batter had a relatively quiet Ashes in Australia, where he scored just 202 at an average of 20.20 and failed to register a single score above 50. He was then part of England’s 2026 T20 World Cup squad but failed to get a single game.
Duckett has also been in the news recently after he pulled out of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season to focus on his international career. He was picked up by the Delhi Capitals in the mini auction for INR 2 crore and was expected to open alongside KL Rahul before making his decision to stay in England and represent Notts in the 2026 County Championship.
