In reply, New Zealand captain Amelia Kerr delivered a magnificent unbeaten innings of 179 runs, while Isabella ‘Charlie’ Gaze played a crucial supporting knock of 68 runs.

This successful chase of 347 runs now stands as the highest successful run chase in history of women’s ODI cricket, a record previously held by Indian women’s team, who had chased 339 runs against Australia in October last year.

New Zealand needed 17 runs from the final 12 balls. In the 19th over, Ayabonga Khaka bowled brilliantly, taking one wicket while conceding just 6 runs, reigniting South Africa’s hopes. In the final over, bowled by Nadine de Klerk, Amelia Kerr struck fours off the first two deliveries, leveled the score with a single on the third ball, and sealed the historic win with a boundary on the fourth.

The highlight of the match was Amelia Kerr’s unbeaten 179 off 139 balls, including 23 fours and a six.
