Delhi: The start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 was not special for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The team had to face consecutive defeats in the first two matches. This is the second time after the year 2022, when Chennai has suffered two consecutive defeats at the beginning of a season.

Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed his displeasure

After two defeats, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed disappointment over the performance of the bowlers.

He said that according to him the team did well in batting and made a strong score of 209 runs. The wicket was favorable for fast bowlers and the slower ball was also catching well, but in bowling, the team could not implement its plan properly, due to which it lost. Ruturaj said that it was an off day for both his fast bowlers and spinners and there was still a need to improve the bowling.

Bowling department failed, could not save the target

Chennai Super Kings bowlers failed to save the target of 210 runs.

The fast bowling of Khalil Ahmed, Matt Henry and Anshul Kamboj did not prove to be effective for the team. Matt Henry took 2 wickets for 54 runs in four overs, Khalil Ahmed gave 28 runs in three overs and Anshul Kamboj took 2 wickets for 43 runs in 3.4 overs.

After Ravindra Jadeja was out of the team, the spin department also looked weak. Noor Ahmed and Rahul Chahar gave 38 and 46 runs respectively, but could not take any wicket. Taking advantage of this weakness, Punjab Kings won the match by scoring 210 runs in just 18.4 overs.

Great performance by Punjab Kings batsmen

For Punjab Kings, Shreyas Iyer played 50 runs, Priyansh Arya 39 and Prabhsimran Singh played excellent innings of 43 runs. With the help of the innings of these players, Punjab easily achieved the target and Chennai Super Kings had to face second consecutive defeat.
