This match was played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, where Punjab Kings performed brilliantly and defeated Chennai Super Kings by 5 wickets. This was Punjab’s second consecutive win, but despite the win the team had to face disciplinary action.

Shreyas Iyer fined Rs 24 lakh
According to the media advisory issued by the IPL, this was Punjab Kings’ second over rate violation this season. This rule applies under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which is to the minimum over rate. After the first offense the team is warned but for the second offense the punishment is increased.

Loss of other players of Punjab Kings also
Under this rule, a fine of Rs 24 lakh has been imposed on Shreyas Iyer. Apart from this, financial penalty has also been imposed on the rest of the players of the team. All players in the playing eleven, including impact players, will be fined Rs 6 lakh or 25 percent of their match fee (whichever is lower).

Talking about the match, Punjab Kings displayed balanced batting while chasing the target and won the match in the last overs. This victory of the team gives them strength in the points table, but the slow over rate definitely dims their happiness a bit.

In the past too, action has been taken against many captains regarding over rate in IPL. The league administration believes that finishing the match on time is very important for the audience and broadcasting. Therefore this rule is strictly followed.

Overall, Punjab Kings definitely won on the field, but ignoring the rules cost them dearly. The team management would like to avoid repeating this mistake in the coming matches.
