Sanju Samson, who played a key role in India’s success at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, is currently facing a difficult phase in IPL 2026. After his move from the Rajasthan Royals to the Chennai Super Kings, expectations were high, but his performances have not matched them so far. His struggles at the top of the order have coincided with Chennai losing three consecutive matches.

In the first three games, Samson managed only 6, 7, and 9, which has raised concerns among fans and the team management. His inconsistency was visible even before the World Cup, which initially kept him out of India’s lineup. However, once the wicket-keeper batter got the opportunity, he made a strong impact and proved his value on the big stage.

“If you’re not mentally in it, then step aside for a few games. This isn’t just about runs anymore. Your body language is screaming disinterest. Every time the camera’s on you, you look frustrated and disconnected.

Honestly, I’ve never seen you smiling even once,” one of the fans wrote.

“What’s hard to accept is the lack of energy, intent, and fight. Where’s the passion? Where’s the hunger? At least show that you care. Right now, it just doesn’t look like it,” another fan wrote.

The frustration among supporters is not limited to his scores. There are growing discussions about his intent and possible disconnect within the CSK setup. During the recent game against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Samson again failed to deliver, leading to criticism on social media, with some fans even suggesting he should step aside if he is not fully focused.

Bengaluru posted a massive total of 250/3. Tim David led the charge with an unbeaten 70 off 25 balls, while Devdutt Padikkal scored 50. Captain Rajat Patidar added a quick 48* off 19 balls, and stitched a crucial 99-run partnership with David. Earlier contributions from Phil Salt (46) and Virat Kohli (28) gave the team a strong foundation.

Chasing the target, Chennai lost early wickets. Although Sarfaraz Khan (50 off 25), Prashant Veer (43), and Jamie Overton (37) tried to fight back, but the required run rate proved too high.

CSK were eventually bowled out for 207 in 19.4 overs, falling well short of the target.
