Many former veterans and experts had advised Kolkata Knight Riders to remove Green from the playing-11 and replace him with Rovman Powell.
Will Green bowl now?
Three-time champions KKR have lost their first two matches this season while the match against Punjab Kings was washed out due to rain. In the current situation, KKR cannot afford to try out different changes and combinations to find the ideal playing 11 as there is no time left.
A few more losses could ruin their 2026 season. Therefore, they need Green to return to the bowling soon, especially since Mathisha Pathirana is yet to join the team.
Green can bowl against Lucknow
The good news for KKR is that 26-year-old Green can return to bowling in the match against Lucknow Super Giants on April 9. The special thing is that Cricket Australia had earlier made it clear that Green can return to bowling with full strength after 10-12 days of the IPL season and KKR’s match against LSG is outside that window period. With this in mind, ESPNcricinfo reported that Green is now ready to bowl.
Green’s batting is also a matter of concern
Green was expected to bat in the top order, but this cricketer has not been able to do well till now. Even on pitches that were good for batting, he scored 18, 2 and 4 in his three innings. This is nowhere near the standard he set for himself earlier. His batting form was also the biggest reason due to which old cricketers advised KKR to try Powell.
On the other hand, there is no update about Varun Chakraborty and Sunil Narine yet. Both could not play in the match against Punjab due to injury and illness.
