The only test match will be played between India and Afghanistan in June, but before this test the Afghanistan team has suffered a big setback. The team’s star all-rounder Rashid Khan may stay away from playing in this Test on the advice of doctors after back surgery. He has indicated that he may not take part in the match against India in Mullanpur in June.
Let us tell you, Rashid Khan has his eyes on the ODI World Cup to be held next year. He had lower back surgery after the 2023 ODI World Cup. Doctors have currently stopped him from playing cricket, but despite this he played a Test match against Zimbabwe last year, in which he bowled 54 overs and took 11 wickets.
Meanwhile, after the IPL match between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans, Rashid said, “It is a bit difficult to play with the red ball, because the doctor told me that I should stay away from the red ball. Still, I played the Test against Zimbabwe.” He further said that the doctor said, “If you do not want to play cricket, then stay away from the red-ball format.”
Since Afghanistan got Test status in 2017, Rashid has played 12 matches, appearing in only six of them.
“I like ODIs and want to play ODIs for Afghanistan for a long time. But I have to take care of my fitness and playing load,” he said. When asked about playing in the Test match against India after IPL, Rashid did not give a clear answer. “If something happens to my back, I can’t play 100 Test matches. Playing one Test match a year won’t keep me playing for a long time. So there are no personal goals in Test cricket,” he said.
This decision of Rashid Khan is a big blow for Afghanistan, because he is the main all-rounder of the team and his absence can affect the team’s strategy.
