Former Indian women’s cricketer Anjum Chopra expressed her hopes for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, saying that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is able to defend their IPL title. Citing examples of successful franchises like Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, he said consistency is extremely important to reach the IPL playoffs. RCB won the IPL title for the first time in 2025 when they defeated Punjab Kings by six runs, ending their 18-year-long wait for the trophy.
Chopra also said that the teams which create good momentum in the beginning and maintain it, have every chance of progressing in the tournament. He also said that a new champion can also emerge this season, and RCB can also defend their title.
Speaking to ANI, Anjum Chopra said, “Yes, they can definitely do it. Mumbai has done it, Chennai has done it, RCB can also do it, and the team that plays well consistently will reach the playoffs. All teams start with good performances to reach the playoffs, just like they start from last season, so they can definitely do it. There can be a new champion, and RCB can also defend their IPL title.” Can.”
Chopra believes that RCB look to be the most organized team this season, and they are carrying their strong momentum forward as the defending champions. “RCB are playing well, they look to be the most organized team at the moment because they are the defending champions, and they have picked up right where they started from last season. In fact, this season they look even more impressive and balanced,” he said.
RCB now occupy the third position in the points table after winning both their opening matches of the 2026 IPL, and have four points, and also have a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +2.501.
Chopra also expressed positive thoughts about Punjab Kings (PBKS), who reached the final last season and are now able to build on the same experience. “Punjab are also playing very well. They played the final last year, so they know where the game ended and where to start again. They have also started well,” he said.
PBKS have also made a great start to the 2026 IPL season, winning two out of three matches, while one match ended in a draw. Punjab is currently second in the points table, they have five points.
