The doors of the team have suddenly been closed for many experienced and veteran players in Indian cricket. Many such legends, whose departure from the team and then not being able to return, have always been the subject of controversies. In the present era, this story is of star fast bowler Mohammed Shami. Till recently, he was one of the most reliable and successful bowlers of Team India, whose name was confirmed in the team and playing-11. But now he is out of the team and waiting to return. After proving himself in domestic cricket, Shami has now emerged as the best bowler in IPL 2026, due to which the question has started arising - will he return now?
Mohammed Shami started his journey with a new team in the IPL 2026 season. This time Shami is taking the field on behalf of Lucknow Super Giants. This is his third team in 3 consecutive seasons. But compared to the last few seasons, the current IPL is most important for them and the eyes on them are also equal. The reason is his ongoing exile in Team India, which has reached almost 14 months. Many players have entered Team India through IPL and some have also returned and hence this season is important for Shami.
36-year-old fast bowler Shami has impressed a lot with his sharp bowling in the IPL 2026 season so far. Whenever he stepped on the field and held a new ball in his hand, he proved to be a disaster for the batsmen. Be it KL Rahul, Abhishek Sharma or Travis Head. By sending these three great batsmen back to the pavilion in just 8-9 balls, Shami showed that the magic of his hands is still intact, who can make the new ball dance to his tunes.

But it is not just about the wicket. Shami has got only 3 wickets so far this season but his overall bowling has been very sharp. He is swinging the new white ball both ways. It has become so difficult for the batsmen to play them that till now, no runs have been scored on half the balls they have bowled. Shami has bowled 12 overs i.e. 72 balls in 3 matches, out of which 39 have been dot balls. His economy is 5.33, which is the best among all the bowlers who have played more than 1 match.
After such excellent bowling, Shami can be expected to return to Team India, especially in the ODI and Test teams. This performance of Shami is not limited only to IPL, but just before this he had bowled amazingly in the entire domestic season also. This star pacer of Bengal had taken 37 wickets in 7 matches in Ranji Trophy, 15 wickets in Vijay Hazare Trophy and 16 wickets in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy.

That is, he has bowled the same way in every format in the last six months, which is needed and expected by Team India. He devoted his entire time to domestic cricket, as per the condition laid down by Ajit Agarkar, Gautam Gambhir and BCCI. In such a situation, will BCCI and Team India management change their stance and give Shami a chance after the end of IPL?
