Chennai: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was fined Rs 12 lakh for slow over-rate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match played against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday. Gaikwad has become the third captain to commit such an offense this season, before which Shubhman Gill of Gujarat Titans and Shreyas Iyer of Punjab Kings were also fined. The special thing is that Iyer has been fined twice this season for slow over-rate—once against GT and once against CSK.
“Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match No.
18. This was his team’s first offense this season, and the fine is Rs 12 lakh under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct,” a statement issued by the IPL said.Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi Capitals by 23 runs in this match, giving them their first win in IPL 2026. With this win, CSK broke the six-match losing streak at home. Batting first, Sanju Samson scored 115* runs in 56 balls, which included 15 fours and 4 sixes. Along with him, Ayush Mhatre scored 59 runs in 36 balls to take CSK to 212/2 in 20 overs.
Delhi’s batsmen Pathum Nissanka (41 runs in 24 balls) and Tristan Stubbs (60 runs in 30 balls) struggled, but Delhi’s score was not enough in front of the excellent bowling of Overton (4/18) and Kamboj (3/35). This resulted in CSK winning by 23 runs. Currently CSK is at 9th position, while DC is at 4th.
At the same time, Delhi Capitals batsman Nitish Rana has also been fined and given one demerit point. Rana had made abusive noises during his team’s IPL 2026 match while he was sitting in the dugout. Rana admitted his mistake and had to pay a fine of 25% of his match fee.
