Former India opener Aakash Chopra has raised concerns regarding the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) team selection for their IPL 2026 clash against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He pointed out that having a strong squad doesn’t necessarily lead to success if the team cannot deliver results.
In the 18th match of IPL 2026 on April 11, CSK set DC a target of 213 runs. However, DC’s response was inadequate, as they were dismissed for 189, losing the match by 23 runs. In a video on his YouTube channel, Chopra criticised DC for opting for a bowling-heavy lineup, which he felt was ineffective in this match.
Chopra also highlighted that a batting lineup that ends at No. 7 is a serious limitation, regardless of how many bowlers are in the team.
“Delhi, you won two matches, but now you’ve lost two. What’s the point of having a strong team if you can’t win? You should have won both of these games. What’s the benefit of having so many bowlers if you can’t even get them to complete their full quota of overs? Neither Kuldeep Yadav nor Auqib Nabi was able to bowl their full overs,” he remarked.
Aakash Chopra criticised the Delhi Capitals’ team setup, highlighting that despite their strong performance in some areas, their batting depth was a major issue. He emphasised that having too many bowlers was unnecessary and that their batting should never end at No. 7, as it did in the match, which ultimately hurt their chances of winning.
“Everything was going well, but your batting shouldn’t stop at No. 7. You don’t need so many bowlers. Even if you choose to play six or seven bowlers, your batting can’t end at No. 7, but that’s exactly what happened,” he noted.
