South Africa have announed the15-member squad for their home T20I series against India. The five-match contest, commencing on Friday, April 17, will serve as preparation for the upcoming 2026 ICC Women's T20 World Cup in England.
South Africa recently played a five-match series against New Zealand away from home, where they lost the series 4-1. Despite the defeat in Oceania, the Proteas squad is largely the same and thus avoiding any massive changes ahead of the showpiece tournament.
The side led by Laura Wolvaardt has made two changes to the side which toured New Zealand earlier this year.
25-year-old Tebogo Macheke has earned her maiden international call-up and will take the gloves from the injured Karabo Meso.On the other hand, all-rounder Eliz-Mari Marx replaces Masabata Klaas in the squad for the series against India. The 23-year-old last played a T20I for the Proteas back in November 2024 but has been a regular for the Titans this year.
"We are excited to welcome Eliz-Mari and Tebogo to the group, and we are looking forward to seeing how they contribute to the team as we continue the journey towards the T20 World Cup.
As a team, we are always looking to evolve, and the introduction of new voices brings fresh perspective and renewed energy to the group,” head coach Mandla Mashimbyi was quoted as saying on Cricbuzz.
Meanwhile, in other news, Cricket South Africa has also confirmed that batting coach Baakier Abrahams, strength and conditioning coach Zane Webster, and fielding coach Bongani Ndaba will all depart at the end of their respective contracts later this year.
We are grateful to Baakier, Bongani and Zane for the strong foundation they have helped build, and this next phase gives us an opportunity to challenge ourselves further as we continue our preparations towards the World Cup," Mashimbyi.
