Lucknow Super Giants won the toss at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA Stadium in Mullanpur on April 19 and Rishabh Pant chose to field first. He was in good spirits at the toss, smiling when asked about his elbow after the Hazlewood blow earlier in the week and saying it was much better.

Manimaran Siddharth comes into the LSG XI with Digvesh Rathi missing out as the one change from their previous game. Punjab Kings meanwhile stay completely unchanged, the same eleven that have won all five of their games so far, and Shreyas Iyer noted at the toss that batting first is a new challenge for his side given they have chased in all five wins.

The most complete team in IPL 2026 meets a side that needs a result badly and the unbeaten record is on the line in Mullanpur tonight.

PBKS vs LSG: Punjab Kings the only unbeaten side and what makes them so difficult to beat

Five wins from five games. First on the points table. The only side in IPL 2026 yet to taste defeat. PBKS under Shreyas Iyer have become the most clinical unit in the competition and the consistency of their XI selection is a significant part of why.

They have barely changed their lineup across five matches and the settled nature of the group shows in how they perform in close situations.

Arshdeep Singh recently became the first player in PBKS franchise history to reach 100 IPL wickets and his ability to take powerplay wickets and execute in the death overs has made Punjab nearly impossible to chase against.

The bowling-first philosophy that Iyer has built around Arshdeep, Marco Jansen and Xavier Bartlett has worked against every opponent so far. Tonight is different because Punjab bat first for the first time all season and Iyer acknowledged at the toss that it presents a new kind of challenge for his group.

PBKS vs LSG: LSG’s search for consistency and what Pant’s return means

LSG sit mid-table with two wins and three losses and the season has been defined by two things. A top order that has struggled for consistency and the fitness questions around Rishabh Pant whose elbow injury sustained from a Josh Hazlewood delivery had kept fans anxious about his availability.

His appearance at the toss tonight looking fit and relaxed was the first good news LSG have had in several days.

Pant’s comment that bowling first gives LSG the freedom to play more freely in the chase reflects a specific tactical confidence in their batting unit that has not always been justified by results.

Nicholas Pooran has been productive in the middle order and Mohammed Shami has been outstanding with the ball when conditions have suited him. The question for LSG is whether their top order of Markram, Marsh and Pant can give them a platform to chase whatever Punjab set on a Mullanpur surface they are playing on for the first time this season.

Siddharth’s inclusion over Rathi is the one tactical adjustment Pant has made suggesting he wants an additional spin option to work with in the conditions.

A win tonight against the unbeaten leaders would be the biggest result of LSG’s season and exactly the kind of momentum shift a side sitting at two of five desperately needs.
