As the Mumbai Indians prepare for their upcoming clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), uncertainty surrounds the availability of Rohit Sharma, who is recovering from a hamstring injury.
A decision on Rohit Sharma’s participation will be taken just before the toss, with the team management closely monitoring his fitness ahead of the high-profile clash.
However, there are some positive news from the Mumbai Indians camp. Rohit Sharma was seen batting in the nets on Wednesday, while undergoing a controlled training session.
He mostly faced throwdowns and avoided big shots during his 25-minute stint, indicating a cautious approach in his recovery.
The injury sustained has already ruled out of two games for Mumbai Indians against Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans. If Rohit is ready to bat but not field, he might be used as an impact player.
If he is unavailable, Mumbai Indians will use Danish Malewar is likely to continue as opener alongside Quinton de Kock.
Rohit Sharma was the leading run scorer in the history of the MI vs CSK rivalry, with 913 runs across 31 matches.
He holds a significant advantage at today’s venue, having surpassed 500 IPL runs against CSK in the Wankhede Stadium.
Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have met on 39 occasions where MI have 21 wins while CSK have 18 wins.
While including the clashes in CLT20, MI have 22 wins while CSK have 19 wins. Although MI have dominant win percentage, CSK have been more successful recently winning last five out of 6 meetings between 2022 and 2025.
On the other hand, MS Dhoni who have been out of six games is unlikely to return to action for the MI vs CSK clash. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has confirmed that he will be likely to be seen in action in close future.
The upcoming MI vs CSK clash at Wankhede Stadium will be one of the high anticipated clash in the ongoing IPL 2026 season.
