mumbai: Chennai Super Kings pacer Mukesh Choudhary delivered a deeply emotional moment during an Indian Premier League 2026 clash, dedicating his first-ball wicket to his late mother.
Just days after performing his mother’s last rites in Bhilwara following her year-long illness, the 29-year-old returned to the field for a high-pressure encounter against Mumbai Indians.
In a remarkable start, Mukesh struck with his very first delivery, dismissing Quinton de Kock. What followed was a touching tribute—an emotional Mukesh looked towards the sky, gesturing in remembrance of his mother.
The entire Chennai Super Kings squad wore black armbands during the match as a mark of respect. The gesture reflected the strong bond within the team and their support for Mukesh during a difficult personal time.
In an official message, the franchise expressed condolences, stating that the “CSK family” stands with Mukesh and his loved ones.
CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad praised Mukesh’s courage and composure, dedicating the emphatic victory to him.
“Pretty tough on him. I would dedicate this win to him. All glory to him. Everyone chipped in and wanted to be there for him,” Gaikwad said after the match.
CSK went on to hand Mumbai Indians their biggest defeat in IPL history, winning by a massive 103-run margin.
Despite the emotional burden, Mukesh demonstrated remarkable professionalism. Known for his ability to swing the new ball, he has been a reliable performer since making his IPL debut in 2022.
Over his career, he has taken 19 wickets in 17 matches, with best bowling figures of 4/46, establishing himself as a key pace option for Chennai.
Mukesh Choudhary’s first-ball wicket was more than just a cricketing highlight—it was a powerful moment of personal tribute and resilience. In the face of grief, his performance and composure stood out, earning admiration from teammates and fans alike.
