Rohit Sharma is slated to play the Mumbai Indians’ next fixture against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 29.

The mercurial Indian opener has been out since April 12, having suffered a hamstring injury while batting in the five-time champions’ loss against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He has missed three games since - against Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, and Chennai Super Kings.

Cricbuzz has reported that Rohit is on the road to full fitness and is gearing up to feature in the game on April 29 at the Wankhede Stadium. It was further added that there is optimism among the Mumbai Indians’ coaching staff, with Rohit readily working on his fitness.

"Rohit is working hard in the middle to get back to full fitness," a source told Cricbuzz.

The former MI skipper has scored 137 runs at a strike rate of 165 in the 2026 season. He scored a brilliant 78 off just 38 balls in the five-time champions’ opening-game victory against the Kolkata Knight Riders, his only 50-plus score of the season.

The Mumbai Indians were handed a whopping 103-run loss by the Chennai Super Kings, where they found themselves struggling to make a move on in the powerplay.

They lost three wickets in that span and were never able to get a hold on the innings in a daunting chase of 208.

"I feel that if we play our best cricket, we have a great chance, but the confidence, the focus, and the discipline have to be there for the next seven games. Well, I don't know yet whether we need to win all seven, but obviously, starting off, I would like to do that - but let's see how the tournament goes," coach Mahela Jayawardene said after the CSK game.

The Mumbai Indians find themselves in eighth place at the halfway stage of their season, with just two wins in seven matches.

They will need to tighten up their results if they are to make a bid for the playoffs. The team is headed to Jamnagar for a bonding session
