Bengaluru: Virat Kohli, who was the hero of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)’s victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026), is once again being praised everywhere. Kohli’s brilliant inning of 81 runs in 44 balls while chasing the target against Gujarat Titans (GT) not only led the team to victory but also proved once again why he is called the ‘Chase Master’.

Veteran cricketer Sunil Gavaskar said about Kohli’s innings, “You drop Kohli’s catch, and he will definitely make you pay a heavy price for it. He did exactly that today.”

Early life sacrifice proved costly

Analyzing the match on Star Sports, Gavaskar said that the lease of life in the initial overs of the innings proved to be the biggest turning point for Gujarat. He said, “We all know that Virat is not just ‘King Kohli’ but ‘Chase Master’. Chasing big targets has been the biggest identity of his career.”

Padikkal’s game improved

Gavaskar also praised the improvement in the batting of Devdutt Padikkal (55 runs in 27 balls). He said, “Padikkal played an excellent innings. Earlier he was considered only an off-side player, but now he has learned to play shots on the leg-side and behind the boundary as well. The form of captain Rajat Patidar and Padikkal is strengthening RCB’s batting.”

RCB moves to second position in points table with thrilling win

RCB, chasing the target of 206 runs, had a bad start and Jacob Bethel was out early. After this, the partnership of 115 runs in 59 balls between Kohli and Padikkal changed the course of the match. In the end, Krunal Pandya (23 not out) batted stormily and took the team to the threshold of victory.

With this win, RCB has now reached second place in the points table of IPL 2026 with 10 points. The team has achieved 5 wins in 7 matches so far.
