Bengaluru: Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru registered a convincing five-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Chasing a challenging target of 206 runs, RCB successfully overhauled the total in 18.5 overs, thanks to a strong batting performance led by Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal.

Kohli anchors chase with match-winning knock

Kohli played a crucial innings of 81 runs, guiding the chase with composure and precision. He was well supported by Padikkal, who scored a quickfire 55 runs.

The duo stitched together a vital 115-run partnership for the third wicket, effectively taking the game away from Gujarat Titans and ensuring a smooth chase.

Kohli’s performance earned him the Player of the Match award.

Gujarat Titans post competitive total

Earlier, Gujarat Titans, put into bat after losing the toss, posted a strong total of 205 for 3 in their allotted 20 overs.

Opener Sai Sudharsan returned to form with a brilliant century, anchoring the innings and helping his team set a challenging target.

Bowlers chip in for RCB

For RCB, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood and Suyash Sharma picked up one wicket each.

Despite the high total, the bowlers managed to restrict Gujarat Titans from crossing an even bigger score.

Gujarat bowlers struggle to defend

In response, Gujarat Titans’ bowlers found it difficult to contain the RCB batters. Rashid Khan was the most successful bowler with two wickets, while Mohammed Siraj, Jason Holder and Manav Suthar took one wicket each.

However, the lack of breakthroughs during the middle overs allowed RCB to maintain control of the chase.

In today’s matches, Delhi Capitals will take on Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, with the match scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM IST.

Later in the evening, Rajasthan Royals will face Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, starting at 7:30 PM IST.
