Delhi Capitals bowler Lungi Ngidi suffered a serious injury while fielding against the Punjab Kings at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, April 25. Ngidi landed awkwardly on his head after dropping a catch in the third over and potentially hurt his neck.

An ambulance was called on the ground in scary scenes for the fans. Lungi Ngidi was seen speaking with the medical team before being stretchered off to the ambulance.

Meanwhile, according to a report from the PTI, the Proteas bowler was shifted to Max Hospital on the Pusa Road for medical examination.

“Lungisani Ngidi of Delhi Capitals hit his head on the ground while attempting to take a catch during his team’s match against Punjab Kings. He was shifted to the hospital in an ambulance as he complained of a headache and neck pain. Ngidi is stable and is due to be discharged from the hospital shortly,” read the IPL statement on X.

Delhi Capitals later revealed that the player was discharged from the hospital and returned to the team’s hotel before midnight on Saturday. There is no official update on extent of injury, but it seems like the worse is behind and player can return to action soon.

However, Ngidi’s injury comes as a major blow to Delhi’s bowling attack in IPL 2026. Mitchell Starc has joined the Delhi camp and is likely to replace Ngidi in DC’s next match against RCB at home on April 27.

Delhi Capitals are yet to share any official update on Lungi Ngidi’s injury, but the player was seen in a lot of pain after hurting his neck. He held his head with both hands and needed a neck brace before being wheeled off to a stand-in ambulance.

Meanwhile, spin all-rounder Viraj Nigam came in as a concussion sub for Ngidi ahead of Dushmantha Chameera.

Delhi bowlers struggled without Ngidi and failed to defend 265 runs on their home ground. KL Rahul’s unbeaten 152 runs off 67 balls went in vain as PBKS batters proved too strong for Delhi bowlers.
