Shreyas Iyer Masterclass: PBKS Script Record 264 Chase vs Delhi Capitals

After a solid start from Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, Shreyas Iyer led the side from the front, securing a 6-wicket win in the 264-run chase against Delhi Capitals.

Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten with 71 runs to guide the side towards victory. By this win, they retain their top spot in the IPL 2026 points table.

By this win, they have the highest record chase in IPL history, surpassing their previous chase in the 2024 season.

After choosing to bat first, Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul opened the innings for the Delhi Capitals while Arshdeep Singh opened the bowling attack.

Arshdeep Singh bagged the wicket of Pathum Nissanka for 11 runs. Nissanka got dismissed on a short and quick around off, where he attempted for a pull shot, which got top edged which Prabsimran Singh took the catch behind the wickets.

Nitish Rana, who came to bat at No.3, joined KL Rahul as the side posted 68 runs in the powerplay. Punjab Kings bowlers proved to be expensive in the power play.

KL Rahul brought his fifty in 26 deliveries and continued to deal Punjab Kings bowlers with fours and sixes.

Meanwhile, Nitish Rana also brought his fifty, as the duo made a 100+ run partnership. KL Rahul brought his 6th IPL century in 47 deliveries and guided the sided to cross 200 run mark.

He added 91 runs off 43 deliveries which included 11 fours and 4 sixes. The duo added a 220 run partnership which is the second highest partnership in the IPL history. He got dismissed by on a full toss, where he chipped the ball in air where Shreyas Iyer ook the catch.

David Miller came to bat at no. 4 joining KL Rahul helping the side to post 264 runs in the 20 overs.

Delhi Capitals posted one of the highest team score in the IPL history.

KL Rahul remained unbeaten with 152* runs off 67 deliveries which included 16 fours and 9 sixes.

He remains third in the list of highest individual scores in IPL with Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum in top two. Only Arshdeep Singh and Xavier Bartlett bagged one wicket each for the side.

Chasing a mammoth 265 runs, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh opened the innings where the duo made a solid start. Despite the inning stopped briefly due to injury of Lungi Ngidi, the duo did not lose intent as they went on to score 100+ run in powerplay.

Prabhsimran Singh smashed his fifty off 18 deliveries and continued to slaughter the bowlers with his brillaint shots.

By the end of powerplay, Punjab Kings went on to score 116 runs in the powerplay. Prabhsimran Singh smashed 6 fours in final over of the powerplay deliveried by Mukesh Kumar. This is also the second highest powerplay in the IPL history.

Axar Patel brought the first breakthroug dismissing Priyansh Arya for 43 runs. Soon After his dismissal, Kuldeep Yadav bagged the wicket of Prabhsimran Singh for 76 runs.

He bagged his second wicket dismissing Cooper Connolly for 17 runs. Shreyas Iyer who came to bat at No. 4, smashed his fifty and continued to bat guiding the side close towards victory.

Vipraj Nigam bagged the wicket of Nehal Wadhera for 25 runs. With Shreyas Iyer and Shashank Singh at crease, Punjab Kings secured a stunning 6 wicket victory as they completed the chase with seven balls to spare.

Punjab Kings will play their next game against Rajasthan Royals on April 28 at New Chandigarh.
