Delhi: The performance of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has been very disappointing so far. The team has won only 2 of its first 8 matches, while it has faced defeat in 6 matches. The situation is such that the team has lost five consecutive matches, due to which the morale of the players also seems to be affected.

Pant’s disappointment was clearly visible after the defeat against Kolkata.

On Sunday, Lucknow had to face defeat in the Super Over in a thrilling match played against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Ekana Stadium. Captain Rishabh Pant looked very disappointed after the match. It was clearly visible from his statement that the team is under mental pressure and continuous defeats are affecting the players.

The team needs a break!

In the post match presentation, Pant clearly said that the team needs a break at this time, so that the players can refresh themselves.

He also clarified that no single player can be blamed for poor performance. According to him, this is the failure of the entire team and every player will have to understand his responsibility. Pant indicated that the team will have to find the solution not from outside, but from within.

Why trust Puran in Super Over?

Pant also spoke openly on the decision to send Nicholas Pooran in the Super Over. He told that this decision was taken after collective discussion of the team. Even though Puran is not in the best form at the moment, the team expressed confidence in him.

Pant believes that it is important to support the players in such difficult times.

Strategy to give the ball to Rathi in the last over

On the decision to hand the ball to Digvesh Rathi in the last over, Pant said that many times risks have to be taken in cricket. He made a change in bowling with the intention of taking wickets, but did not get success as per the plan. According to Pant, sometimes the situation becomes more complicated by thinking too much on the field.

Lucknow is at the bottom in the points table

After this defeat, Lucknow Super Giants have fallen to 10th place in the points table.

At the same time, Kolkata Knight Riders have jumped to 7th position with the win. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians are present at 9th position. Due to continuous defeats, the journey ahead looks quite challenging for Lucknow.
