Bengaluru: Sai Sudharsan of Gujarat Titans scripted history in the Indian Premier League by becoming the fastest batter to reach 2,000 runs in the tournament.
The milestone came during Gujarat Titans’ clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday.
Sudharsan achieved the feat in just 47 innings, surpassing the previous record held by Chris Gayle, who had reached the mark in 48 innings.
With this achievement, the young left-hander moved ahead of notable players such as Shaun Marsh, Ruturaj Gaikwad and KL Rahul in the list of fastest batters to 2,000 IPL runs.
Entering the match needing 72 runs to reach the milestone, Sudharsan delivered a composed and impactful performance. He brought up the record in style and went on to score a brilliant 100 off 58 balls.
His innings was eventually cut short by Josh Hazlewood, but not before he had firmly stamped his authority on the game.
Prior to this match, Sudharsan had already accumulated 1,928 runs from 46 matches, maintaining an impressive average of 45.90 and a strike rate of 145.83. His tally included two centuries and 13 half-centuries.
He also ranks among the quickest Indian batters to reach 2,000 IPL runs in terms of balls faced, underlining his consistency and scoring efficiency.
Earlier in the game, Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar won the toss and opted to bowl first.
RCB handed a season debut to Jacob Bethell, who replaced the injured Phil Salt.
On the other hand, Gujarat Titans included Jason Holder for his debut in the playing XI and recalled Manav Suthar.
Sai Sudharsan’s record-breaking feat highlights his rapid rise in the IPL and establishes him as one of the most promising batters in the league. With consistent performances and a growing list of achievements, he continues to strengthen his position as a key player for Gujarat Titans and a rising star in Indian cricket.
