In a recent interview, Shreyas Iyer told that criticism and taunts have been the biggest reason behind his new success.

He said that when people used to say that he could not do something, those very things shook him from within. Iyer said, ‘Many people around me used to say that in this situation you will not be able to do it, it is impossible. I don’t like to hear such things at all. That’s why I thought that now I have to prove them wrong.

He told that even after the injury, many people had said that he would not be the same player as before. But he asked himself why this could not happen? This thinking inspired him to work hard again.

Got the most taunt on short ball weakness

Shreyas Iyer has been criticized for a long time for his weakness against short balls. The opposition bowlers also tried to trouble him with the same strategy. But Iyer took it as a challenge. He said, ‘People used to say that I would never be able to fix the problem of short ball. This is what triggered me. I thought that now I have to work hard.

Iyer told that earlier he used to try to take only singles on short balls or keep the ball down, but now his attitude has changed. Now if the ball comes in his range then he thinks of hitting it straight for a six.

Change brought about by special training
Shreyas told that he used to work continuously with his childhood coach Praveen Amre. Apart from this, he also keeps talking to Abhishek Nair. He said that now he practices batting for 50 overs in the nets and plays more than 300 balls. This helps them understand their technique, movement and rhythm. Giving examples of AB de Villiers, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Iyer said that big batsmen bring their body in the right position before the bowler throws the ball. He was also working on the same rhythm.

Punjab Kings are getting benefit
Punjab Kings are performing brilliantly under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer in IPL 2026. The team is getting both stability in the middle order and fast runs on big occasions. This story of Iyer shows that if criticism is taken in the right way, it can make a person stronger.
